Introduction of sodium hydrogen difluoride

Sodium hydrogen difluoride is an inorganic compound, its chemical formula is NaHF2, CAS No. is 1333-83-1. It is white solid under normal temperature and pressure. Sodium hydrogen difluoride (CAS 1333-83-1) can be used for the preparation of hydrous hydrogen fluoride, and also can be used for engraving glass, wood anticorrosion, etc.

Chemical property of sodium hydrogen difluoride

Sodium hydrogen difluoride is white flow sand crystalline or powder. It has a strong sour taste and is poisonous. In humid air, it absorbs water and releases hydrogen fluoride. Dissolve in water and insoluble in alcohol. Sodium hydrogen difluoride water solution can corrode glass. It is heated to 160 °C to decompose to sodium fluoride and hydrogen fluoride.

  1. HF + NaF → NaHF2
  2. 4HF+Na2CO3→2NaHF2+H20+CO2

Reaction of saturated sodium carbonate and hydrofluoric acid, cooling, vacuum filtration, centrifuge separation, drying and crushing. The final product is sodium hydrogen difluoride.

Uses and transportation of sodium hydrogen difluoride

Sodium hydrogen difluoride can be used for etching glass, tinplate manufacturing, textile treatment, rust removal and production of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. It also can be used as antiseptic and preservative of anatomical specimen, and food protective agent. Sodium hydrogen difluoride mixed with potassium hydrogen fluoride  can be used as a metal welding agent.

Packing methods

Threaded mouth glass bottle, iron cap glass bottle, plastic bottle or a common wooden box outside a metal barrel (pot), plastic bottles for internal packing.

Matters needing attention for transportation

When the transportation is starting, packing should be complete, the loading should be safe. In the course of transportation, we should ensure that the container does not leak, does not collapse, does not fall, and does not damage. It is strictly forbidden to mix with acids, food chemicals, etc. Transportation vehicles should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment during transportation. Prevent solarization, rain, and high temperature. Road transportation should be driven in accordance with the prescribed route, and do not stay in residential areas and densely populated areas.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stored and used under normal ambient temperature, sodium hydrogen difluoride product is stable.

Conditions of avoiding contact: Electrostatic discharge, heat, moisture and so on.

Prohibition: Strong oxide, strong acid, strong alkali.

Waste disposal methods

Waste chemicals should be recycled as much as possible. If it can not be recycled, the incineration method is used for disposal. Sodium hydrogen difluoride waste shall not be disposed in the way of discharge to the sewer.

Contaminated packaging container shall be returned to the manufacturer, or disposed in accordance with the national and local regulations.
